About JANE

JANE Culture was developed as a way to describe the type of people that would join the movement and to give “JANE’S” a sense of pride. JANE is the culture of the aware, the survivors, the warriors, the strong and ready for action. We are visionaries, creative thinkers, proactive problem solvers, and advocates for change. Change to a world of non-violence, support, and courage. Courage to take a stand and create a world where there is power in being healthy and non-violent. In JANE we celebrate ourselves for having the courage to take a stand, for changing the nature of thought from negative to positive, for embracing our diversity and being unified by commitment.

The JANE campaign was developed as the driving force of Start Strong Oakland’s social marketing efforts. JANE is a grassroots campaign that has as its primary purposes to:

Rally the community to take action and support teen dating violence prevention;
Educate the community about TDV;
Unite the community to come together in an effort to create positive social and cultural change.

JANE campaign is unique in that it targets both youth and adults alike with the same messages of empowerment, action, and courage in an effort to prevent teen dating violence. JANE messages are presented in both youth and adult friendly manners to attract both to the movement.
